Makwarela Society for the Aged to Host Community Fun Walk to Support Elderly Care Initiatives
Scheduled for 28 November 2025
The Makwarela Society for the Aged is gearing up to host a major community Fun Walk on Friday, 28 November 2025, in Makwarela, Thohoyandou. The event aims to raise critical funds for the organisation’s elderly care programmes and its planned borehole project, which will ensure a reliable water supply for daily operations.
The Fun Walk will begin at their centre, where participants will gather for registration and pre-walk wellness checks. Local clinic staff will conduct blood pressure, glucose, and general health screenings to ensure that elderly participants are ready for the walk and finish at and end at Magwedzha Mphaphuli Hall. Thohoyandou EMS has been invited to provide medical support and emergency readiness throughout the event.
The event is expected to attract community members of all ages, including families, youth groups, fitness enthusiasts, NGOs, and supporters of elderly welfare. Organisers say the walk is designed not only to raise funds, but also to promote healthy living and strengthen community support for the elderly.
According to the Makwarela Society for the Aged, proceeds from the Fun Walk will help fund:
A borehole installation project
The nutrition programme, which provides daily meals to senior citizens
The home-based elderly care initiative
The medical check-up programme
Additional community-based projects benefiting vulnerable elderly residents
Various local businesses, foundations, and organisations—some with a history of supporting the Society—have been invited to participate through donations, sponsorships, and on-site activations. The Dr Tshenuwani Farisani Foundation is among the partners expected to contribute food parcels to elderly beneficiaries during the event.
The Fun Walk will take place in the morning and will be followed by a closing programme at the hall, featuring acknowledgments, short speeches, and presentations.
The event is part of a full day of fundraising activities, which will conclude with a gala dinner on the same evening, also hosted at the Magwedzha Mphaphuli Hall.
Organisers say the success of the event depends on strong community involvement and are calling on residents, businesses, churches, youth groups, and NGOs to come out in support of elderly members of the community.
