Makwarela, Thohoyandou – 16 February 2026 – Makwarela Society for the Aged is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a R12,000 Shoprite Community Network voucher, a generous prize announced live on Phalaphala FM on 13 February 2026.
The award, part of Shoprite’s ongoing Community Network initiative, recognises outstanding community projects and non-profit organisations that make a meaningful difference in local areas. Makwarela Society for the Aged, a dedicated NPO serving elderly residents in Makwarela and surrounding villages in Limpopo, was selected for its tireless work in providing home-based care, daily service centre, nutritious meals, health screenings, emergency relief, and social support to vulnerable older persons.
The exciting announcement came during a special segment on Phalaphala FM, one of Limpopo’s leading community radio stations, where listeners and supporters tuned in to hear the good news. The voucher will be used to purchase essential groceries, hygiene items, and supplies for the organisation’s feeding programmes and food parcels, directly benefiting hundreds of frail and low-income seniors who rely on these services.
Centre Manager Ms N. Mudau expressed deep gratitude: “This voucher is a tremendous blessing from the community and Shoprite. It will help us stock our daily service centre with nutritious food and ensure our home-based care teams can continue delivering meals and support to bedridden elders. We are truly humbled and thank Phalaphala FM for shining a light on our work.”
Chairperson Mr T.L. Managa added: “Awards like this remind us that our efforts to promote dignity, independence, and joy for our elders are seen and valued. We extend heartfelt thanks to Shoprite for their commitment to community upliftment and to everyone who nominated or supported us.”
Makwarela Society for the Aged (NPO 057-093 | PBO 9139376231) has been empowering older persons since 2005 through Ubuntu-driven programmes that combat isolation, hunger, and health challenges. The organisation invites the community to continue partnering with them through donations, volunteering, or attending upcoming events.
